Our Population is a Palindrome

Statistics NZ say New Zealand's population hit 4545454 around 3.30pm 23 November 2014.

On their population clock they say New Zealand's population is estimated to increase by one person
every 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

This is based on the estimated resident population at 30 September 2014 and the following forecasts;

-One birth every 8 minutes and 34 seconds.

-One death every 18 minutes and 16 seconds.

-A net migration gain of one New Zealand residents every 8 minutes and 21 seconds.

-The forecasts are based on recent trends and do not necessarily reflect actual population change.

Rapid Writing

Today we did some rapid writing. We had to write with three specific language features, a given tense, a topic and, if we wanted, a challenge which involved imagery.

Here are some of our creations.  See if you can name the language feature, the tense and the topic.
See if you can name the sense used for imagery.

Nightfall

The small waves will dance big,
The quiet fish will sing loudly,
The slow clams will beat in time,
and my nose will smell the salt when night falls

Michaela McLister

The water will ripple calmly through the stones, sniffing everything in its way.
Ella van der Wilt

Oxymoron, future tense and water.
The challenge was imagery using the sense of smell.

Grandma gracefully placed her grey glasses onto her beautiful face.

Ella van der Wilt

Grandma Grampy knitted a green jumper so bright that even blind people could see a green tint whenever they passed her.

Amelia Peasey

Alliteration, past tense and Grandma.
The challenge was imagery using  the sense of sight.

What Am I?

I am made of metal
They call me jolt, flat, clout, gang or zed
I am served in grams or kilograms
If I keep my head on I hold stuff together
I always go to work in a belt

.............................

Can you guess what I am?
